Exploring Environmental Issues in Fiction

Join award-winning authors and editors Midge Raymond and John Yunker as they discuss using fictional stories to address issues such as the environment, globalization, and threats to endangered species on Monday, July 11, from 7:00-8:30 p.m., at the Ashland Branch Library, 410 Siskiyou Boulevard.

The presenters will talk about portraying issues in fiction without sacrificing the story. In addition to tips on characterization, setting, and plot, they?ll offer writing exercises to help you jump-start your own writing.

Ms. Raymond's short-story collection, Forgetting English, received the Spokane Prize for Short Fiction. Her work has been nominated for three Pushcart Prizes and she received an Artist Trust/Washington State Arts Commission Fellowship. Mr. Yunker?s book The Tourist Trail was inspired by a trip to the Patagonia region of Argentina, where he volunteered with a penguin census for The Penguin Project. He has also traveled to Norway and Antarctica, where portions of The Tourist Trail are set.

This author event is sponsored by the Friends of the Ashland Public Library. For more information, please call the Ashland Branch Library at 541-774-6996.
