Jackson County, in partnership with the cities of Medford and Ashland, recently implemented a Reverse 911 emergency notification system. In case of emergency, Reverse 911 allows local officials to quickly call all land-line telephones in a specified geographic area to alert citizens of a hazard in their area. In the event of a fast-moving fire or flood, efficient delivery of an evacuation notice can help save lives and property.
Phase two of the implementation will be to roll out a web-based Citizen Alert portal where citizens can register other contact paths, such as cell phones and email, and specify how they prefer to be contacted. Residents will also be able to receive, or choose not to receive, non-emergency notifications regarding events that may affect them, such as road closures.
The Citizen Alert web portal will become available to all Jackson County residents sometime around the end of August. It will be reachable via the Jackson County, City of Ashland, and City of Medford web sites.
Stay tuned for more information in the weeks ahead. Subscribers to the county web site will be notified via email when the Citizen Alert portal is available for use.
